Solid Waste Management
The Bootheel Solid Waste Management District continues to work toward a better environment for the six-county region. State law provides funding for solid districts in the state, to assist cities and counties in a wide variety of reduction, reuse and recycling projects and activities to reduce the flow of solid waste to area landfills.
The Bootheel Regional Planning Commission staff works under contract with the district board made up of commissioners from the six counties. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources provides a grant to each district for administration, as well as funds derived from landfill tipping fees to underwrite district projects and activities. The district board then approves grants to fund local projects that meet the criteria of Senate Bill 530. This funding for cities, counties and the private sector promote and encourage activities that improve the quality of our environment.
Our thanks to the Bootheel Solid Waste Management District and the Board of Directors for their support and vision in this vital program for the Bootheel.
