  • Purpose

    The purpose of the Community Outreach Specialist is to effectively communicate and implement initiatives, through all types of media, programs and services provided by the Bootheel Regional Planning and Economic Development Commission through its partnerships with the Missouri Department of Economic Development and other state and federal agencies.

    Job Description

    The Bootheel Regional Planning Commission is seeking a full-time Community Outreach Specialist. Duties will include promoting and coordinating state and federal broadband initiatives as part of the Connect all Missourians strategy and the Affordable Connectivity Program by providing technical expertise to cities, counties, and non-profit agencies. Other duties will include coordinating outreach for other state and federal initiatives, project development, and grant writing. The proposed salary is negotiable and will be based upon qualifications and experience. Full benefits will be provided.

    Candidates should have the ability to travel regularly within a six-county service area, including some evenings, and occasional overnight travel to statewide meetings and conferences. Graduation from an accredited college or university in the fields of public administration, business administration, communication, planning, or other closely related fields of study is preferred. An ideal candidate would possess experience in broadband and communications technology, computer skills, and in the preparation of written reports and professional communication.

  • Job Description

    The Bootheel Solid Waste Management District (District) is seeking applications for the part-time position of Recycling Education Consultant (Consultant). This position is responsible for promoting the overall reduce/reuse/recycle goals, the benefits of recycling, and the opportunities available around the District. The District is looking specifically for a kid friendly candidate with demonstrable experience in effective classroom leadership, lesson organization, and electronic lesson preparation and presentation.

    The Education Consultant agrees to perform the following services for the District:

    The Recycling Education Programs will provide the benefits of recycling and the opportunities available.

    Programs will be 30-60 minutes as age-appropriate for the audience.

    Consultant will make contacts to schools (grades 2 & 4), civic organization, etc. for scheduling of programs during the fiscal year (July 1-June 30).

    Programs are to be held in the counties of Dunklin, Mississippi, New Madrid, Pemiscot, Scott, and Stoddard.

    Consultant will develop teacher packets for school programs (e.g., printed resources and worksheets, electronic presentations, etc.)

    Consultant will submit contents of age-appropriate (grades 2 & 4) programs.

    Consultant will disseminate printed and electronic recycling education/ opportunities information to the audience.

    District, with Consultant’s input, will order promotional recycled products for handouts and hands-on experiences.

    Consultant will keep/submit a time log of all activities (e.g., program preparation, travel, presentation, etc.) in order to receive payment.

    Consultant will submit reports monthly to the Regional Planner of the schools/organizations visited arranged by date, number of students & teachers/adults in attendance, miles driven, time spent, and incidentals with receipt.

    Consultant will solicit a short evaluation (provided by the District) from each school/ organization visited.

    Desired Qualifications

    Certified educator highly preferred.

    A proven record of effective classroom leadership.

    Ability to pass a background check.

    Salary & Benefits

    ·         Consultant will be paid/reimbursed for documented programs and expenses once a month.

    Salary is 200 hours @ $16.71/hour during fiscal year (FY)2023.

    Mileage of 1700 miles paid @ $0.55/mile during FY2023.

    Incidental costs of $5.00 per outing during FY2023.
